Vision Quest (Soundtrack)
1985 was the year that Madonna achieved world fame but her first appearance of the year relates to earlier pre-fame recordings made for the Vision Quest soundtrack released by Geffen Records. The film of the same name includes an appearance by Madonna, her first in a major motion picture, playing a singer at a local bar, where she performs the songs "Crazy for You" and "Gambler".
In the UK the soundtrack was released on LP and cassette formats but had a very limited pressing – most record stores were stocked with the US import, as distinguished by the small square notch cut from the LP cover. This lack of pressings might also explain why the recording failed to chart in the UK despite being the only album format to include Madonna’s highest charting single of the time: ‘Crazy For You’.
While the UK cassette and LP do not appear to be particularly valuable, they are nevertheless scarce and care needs to be taken to distinguish them from the far more numerous US versions.
The most valuable collectable is the promo flat. Several of these were issued for the main contributors but only the Madonna flat is worth collecting, selling for up to £50. Although this is a US flat, it also appeared in the UK.
