Visionquest / Crazy For You
Promotional Items

An earlier entry on this particular page had stated: ''Vision Quest' appears to be the only US major motion picture not to have been issued with a promotional press pack". However, the numerous US promo photos featuring various members of the cast with official WB logos alway rather indicated that one existed. And finally, one has now been sourced and uploaded to this site. It was indeed worth the wait. It comes in its own customised glossy folder and contains no fewer than eight separate documents including production notes, credits, biographies of the major stars and director and, uniquely among the press packs featured on this webpage, a promotional 7" record of the main theme - 'Only The Young' by Journey. While that may have been the official theme, the film, not to mention the music, was subsequently overshadowed by the sudden global success of Madonna and it was 'Crazy For You' that became the main theme of the film sufficient even to prompt the film to change it's title! See below. If is therefore with some disappointment that the promotional record included in the pack is that of Journey and not Madonna! But nevermind. There is sufficient to interest the Madonna collector, particularly the fact that by the time the film was ready for release, Madonna had broken big and therefore a separate 'Madonna' bio document was created to be included in this pack, alongside the main cast members, under the title of 'Pop Music's Powerful Young Madonna Makes Her Movie Debut In "Vision Quest"'. It is the first promotional document to showcase Madonna in connection with film.
Also unique to this press pack is a document devoted to a run-down of the 14 promo photos included within the pack. Intriguingly, only one of these photos include Madonna, namely the triptych photo. However, a second promo photo of Madonna, a solo shot of one of the images included in the triptych, also exists. As this was not included in the press pack, nor listed among the photo document, it has been featured separately under 'Additional Promo Photos'. Additional promo photos of other cast members also exist, not featured here.
Similarly there are two additional promo photos featuring Madonna with different typeface. It is believed these are of European origin and were probably produced due to Madonna's presence in a film whose subject matter is very much a niche US subject and would not otherwise have generated sufficient interest outside of North America. Again, additional photos featuring other members of the cast with this same alternate 'European' typeface design also exist but are not featured here.
Another US promotional item featured here, due to there being no UK equivalent, is the cinema poster. For such a limited release, this poster is surprisingly easy to source on Ebay - raising the suspicion of reprints (this phenomena also exists for another limited cinematic release - 'Bloodhounds of Broadway').
When the film was released on video in the UK, the title was changed to 'Crazy For You' in order to maximise the marketing potential based on Madonna's sudden global appeal. This same name-change also took place in Australia, and therefore an Australian promotional poster is also included here. The poster also notes that 'Crazy For You' was a No.1 hit in Australia.
