Shine A Light
Perhaps because of the furore over the Sex/Erotica project, 1992 proved to be a busy year for unofficial releases. Not only did the ubiquitous Otto von Wernherr reissue and recycle all his old recordings (yet again), another 12” picture disc appeared on the same Receiver Records label called ‘Shine A Light’. This release initially caused a stir among collectors as the track came from a rare unreleased demo which originated from the post-Breakfast Club / pre-Emmy period when Madonna was recruiting musicians for her own ensemble.
Featuring a striking shot of Madonna performing ‘Vogue’ at the MTV awards, the 12" picture disc initially sold for very high prices with early copies selling for over £100. However, it was either pressed in higher numbers than originally thought or was repressed (always a risk with bootlegs) and consequently the value today is around the £20 mark.
The same tracks also appeared on the more numerous CD format.
