Lucky Star
Promotional Items
For the full narrative of 'Lucky Star' please refer to the entry under the SINGLES tab
'Lucky Star' is the first single to appear in official promotional formats.
An alternative 12" containing a 'U.S Remix' was issued in a custom sleeve and was reputedly issued only to DJs. This version also appeared with the reissue but originals can be easily distinguished by the issue date of '1983' printed on the label. It can be sourced quite easily and bought for anything up to £20.
A much rarer promotional item is the compilation promo LP (SAM 193). Perhaps indicative of the marketing push, it appears as the first track on side 1! Despite being pressed as an LP, it is housed in a generic WEA 12" sleeve. This promo item is also unique in that it has a colourful WEA label - all subsequent 'SAM' promos are pressed with white labels. Expect to pay around £50+.
There is another very quirky collectable in the form of a mispresssed 12" promotional single for Lady B's 'Attractive Young Man Wanted' which appears with Madonna's 'I Know It' label on the b-side. This is the b-side track for 'Lucky Star'. This item can sell for up to £50.
Having collected all the above, those with deep pockets can look out for one last item which, while not the most expensive of the 'Lucky Star' plethora of rarities, is likely to be the most challenging to find: - a 10" Trident one-sided acetate containing a 'rejected alternate cut'. Expect to pay anything from £350.
